And that's exactly what fascinates Slovak performer and lecturer Daniel Raček, who you can see at MOVE Fest in the performance picnic How To Watch a Moving Body . In his Sunday workshop, you will look at the mechanics of movement itself and how the spine and the periphery (upper and lower limbs and head) support the execution of inverted body positions. With short movement phrases and exploration in pairs, you will give your body and senses an experience of excitement, pleasure and flow in time and space. Your upper limbs will be put to the test and you will be pushing, banging, rubbing and pushing the floor almost constantly.
Why come?
The workshop offers an intense experience of discovering the body from a different perspective. You will learn to trust your own body, discover new sources of energy and playfulness, and together with other participants you will search for answers to the question "What occupies our minds and where does our attention go when the world turns upside down?"
In his youth, Danko Raček was fascinated by folk dance, its dynamics, spontaneity and social dances.
Over the course of almost 30 years in the field of contemporary dance, he has collaborated with many Slovak and foreign directors and choreographers. He has had long-term and intensive collaborations with Debris Company (Bratislava), RootlessRoot company (Athens) and Karen Foss Quiet Works (Oslo).
Since 2014, he has been working and teaching in the Neskorý zber association (Bratislava), whose work is characterized by open forms and progressive methods of creation and research. His creative-research projects transcend the boundaries of science and art (quantum physics, embryology, geometry and architecture). In his pedagogical practice, he focuses on the principles of contemporary dance with a special focus on inverted body positions and modern partnerships.
In 2006, he was awarded the Philip Morris/Kvet Baletu award for the best interpretative performance in contemporary dance. He is a graduate of the Faculty of Music and Dramatic Arts of Charles University and the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava.
